What a terrific performance today from the 1stXV this afternoon against what was a strong Belhaven side with one very large and fast runner in the centres. We have decided to play a little more to our strengths, having dominated up front in the first two games of the season; so today, we played a little more closer to the rucks, in the 10 channel, and I was really impressed with the work rate and commitment of the forwards once again. We had so much possession and by keeping it a little tighter, made more progress and the poor Belhaven boys certainly found themselves tackling again and again and again. When the ball did go wider, the centres were much more robust and better at getting over the gain line, staying on their feet and waiting for support to get there. We scored terrific team tries, with the forwards driving up field time after time, and some superb off loading and recycling – great to see everyone working so hard for the team.
A really promising performance indeed, and with 11 matches remaining this season, the team really are improving in all aspects of the game, putting a game plan in to action and seeing the benefits.
The Belhaven centre scored their tries, and they scored more than we did; however, I was very proud of the team performance and seeing the direction we are heading. There is much to celebrate and look forward to and this group of boys are growing everyday in to 1stXV rugby. Well done indeed!
