Music

Music lessons are coordinated to run during the normal school day. Regular concerts and mini-concerts give the children the opportunity to perform in public.

Music

Well over half of our pupils take individual music lessons, many on 2 or even 3 instruments. Some will start to learn an instrument from as young as five or six years of age. Large numbers are involved in a range of groups and ensembles, from weekly groups to choirs and the larger Pipe and Drum Band.  Boys and girls take part in concerts both in and out of school while the chapel choir sings regularly in public each week. Pupils can also benefit from hearing professional musicians perform both at Cargilfield and in regular trips to Edinburgh concert halls.

More proficient musicians are taught music theory as part of a small groups while others join in with the composition club. Entry to senior school also offers the opportunity to prepare to take Music Scholarships or share their musical skills as part of an All-Rounder-Scholarship.
