Academic

At Cargilfield we prepare boys and girls for senior schools all over the United Kingdom: the list is very varied from Eton, Harrow and Downe House in the south to Oundle, Uppingham and Rugby it the midlands to Ampleforth, Queen Margaret’s York and Sedbergh in the north of England to Glenalmond, Gordonstoun, Strathallan in the countryside of Scotland to Fettes, Merchiston, Loretto, Stewart’s Melville and St. George’s in the city of Edinburgh.

Our curriculum is extensive: not only do we offer Classics, both Latin and Greek - and this is becoming extremely rare - that every child studies both French and Spanish and Mandarin can be taken as an option out of school.

Boys and girls are prepared for both Common Entrance at 13+ to senior schools or some will be prepared for Academic Scholarships to schools across the U.K and these exams are set by the individual schools.

Supporting our academic programme is the city of Edinburgh, so full of historical, geographical, scientific places of interest and we are also close to Glasgow, Perth and Dundee - children of all ages utilise the environment around us.

Science ExperimentScience Experiment - Science at Cargilfield

Cargilfield leads in its approach to both Classics and Modern Languages; we have European pupil links with Spain, Germany and France; the children attend annual trips (for a full week) to both France and Italy. Spanish has been introduced into the Curriculum. Drama productions are produced each term and every child can be in a play at any stage. Over 200 music lessons are taught during the week; there is an excellent Pipe Band and ten other music groups meet on a weekly basis. We also have a Chapel Choir and a Junior Choir. Poetry and Debating successes during the last year have added greatly to children’s confidence and we also take part in the English Speaking Board Examinations and attend English Speaking Union Competitions.
