Cargilfield is an independent Prep School attached to no
particular Senior School in the United Kingdom, although
situated on the edge of Edinburgh, there is no particular
feed to any one school north of the border and indeed nearly
half of the Cargilfield are moving at 13+ to England. This
is a school which very much prepares boys and girls to go
to the school that fits the individual and this may well
be in Edinburgh, in Perthshire, up in Morayshire, in Yorkshire
or in the Thames Valley.
At the end of this year, pupils leave Cargilfield to go to: Ampleforth, Eton, Fettes, Glenalmond, Harrow, Loretto, Merchiston Castle, Rugby, Shrewsbury and Sedbergh. Next year several children move on to Oundle having already visited for a very enjoyable three-day event in Northamptonshire. The Headmaster has visited well
over 100 schools in the last 22 years but in particular has
visited 20 of these schools on very many occasions and continues
to go to schools throughout the year to meet with both House
staff and Heads.
We also welcome visitors from Senior Schools all over the United Kingdom on a regular basis: some come to preach in Chapel; some come to referee or umpire; some come to give Science or History lectures; some come to take part in various workshops which have involved English.
Debating Competition During the past year, visitors to Cargilfield have come from Ampleforth,
Eton, Fettes, Glenalmond, Gordonstoun, Harrow, Loretto, Merchiston,
Oundle, Sedbergh and Shrewsbury.
Whether it be at Common Entrance level or at Scholarship, Cargilfield boys and girls have continued to move confidently into their Senior Schools. The feedback from Old Boys and Old Girls is very important and is an additional source of useful information when speaking with parents of Cargilfield.
