Welcome to all of you tuning in to the Association page
- part of the newly upgraded website, which gives us all
such an insight into Cargilfield today.
John Elder, our Headmaster, has stamped his style on the
School and this has already seen a whole range of energetic
improvements! Numbers of pupils are on the ‘up’ again as
parents welcome the wide range of ‘extra’ activities on offer
to run alongside the high teaching standards, still the bedrock
of the school.
The criticism that Cargilfield had become merely a day school
for Edinburgh has now been firmly quashed as the school is
again attracting parents from further afield. This year again,
has seen a number of foreign students, lending the place
that ‘international’ feel that is so beneficial for the home-grown
pupils. Do please come and see the changes for yourself.
The main fabric of the School buildings remains as ever
but is now joined by a new Science Department, which has
impressed everyone. We have also completed both phases of
repairing and reinstating the use of the Cricket Pavilion
which can now be used to watch all manner of outside activities;
rugby matches, fireworks night etc. We will officially re-open
the Pavilion next year, probably with another cricket match!
For those of you perhaps considering a return to have a
look at the School, without the worry of ‘commitment’, perhaps
you would consider coming along to our Remembrance Sunday
Service in the Chapel on Thursday 11th November starting
at 10.45am. The Headmaster will, I believe, be providing
us with some light refreshments after what is always a very
special occasion.
As for other future events, we intend to repeat a Parents,
Old Boys and Girls hockey match next Spring Term. In our
inaugural matches earlier this year, both the girls and boys
ended in 2-2 draws, with no yellow or red cards shown!
As mentioned previously, we would like to formerly welcome
the new Headmaster and his wife Hanneke - I suspect that
the re-opening of the Cricket Pavilion next summer would
provide a perfect setting with John Elder successfully completing
his first year.
If any of this has made you want to get in touch, and perhaps
have a look around the School, I would be happy to act as
your official guide - just get in touch with me by telephone
on 0131 225 1463, or by e-mail: LeonardHarperGow@aol.com,
or you could simply telephone the school on 0131
336 2207 and leave me a message.
