Mathematics is a creative discipline. It can stimulate
moments of pleasure and wonder when a pupil solves a problem
for the first time, discovers a more elegant solution to
that problem, or suddenly sees hidden connections. We
aim for Mathematics to be taught both as a tool to be used
(whether in everyday life or in specific fields) and as a
subject in its own right, for its own interest and enjoyment.
Mathematics is a core subject and the aims of the Scottish
5-14 Syllabus, the Common Entrance curriculum and the National
Numeracy Strategy are taken into consideration.
At Cargilfield Mathematics is taught by specialist teachers
from Form 4 to Form 8 and the introduction of three interactive
whiteboards in the Department will deliver the curriculum
in new and exciting ways. Our annual Maths Day Trip
is enjoyed by staff and pupils alike.
Maths on the Royal MileIn the upper forms, the pupils work towards Common Entrance and those sitting Scholarship examinations start to use Mathematics in an advanced and pure way.
