Junior Camp for Form 4 and 5 year group: sun, challenge and a lot of fun!

Thirty seven children ventured up to Perthshire for the Junior Camp on Friday the 7th of May, camping on the Glenalmond College estate – many thanks to them – and the group was blessed with the most superb weather throughout the weekend.  After pitching camp on Friday, the boys and girls went to Aberfeldy for a climbing experience: high ropes, plastic crate competition and tree work.  Fun and games at camp including football, rounders and cricket was had by all before the evening meal to prepare us for the Saturday and the Sunday which would make sure that the children were fairly well challenged.

Up just a tiny bit too early on Saturday morning, we again went down to Aberfeldy to take part in river rafting and gorge scrambling.  Once again this was a stunning day in the Perthshire hills and a small group went into the hills with Mr and Mrs Elder and the two westies Poppy and Hope.

Sunday allowed us a dry packing up of tents and equipment and also made sure that the full party enjoyed going up one of the local mountains and all reached the summit of Meall nam Fuaran at about two thousand six hundred feet.  The views were spectacular:  to Ben Lomand in the west, to Glencoe in the north and to the Angus hills in the east.  Even the Pentlands were in view.  This was a super camp with everybody behaving and helping and my thanks go to all the teachers involved and to Glenalmond for their tremendous hospitality.  There were I have to say a few tired eyes on Monday morning in Chapel but thankfully the hymn managed to wake us all up!
