Junior camp in Perthshire: challenging and fun

The Junior Camp was a superb three days up in Perthshire: thirty three tremendous pupils who never complained, went about their daily chores and challenges with happy smiles and a feeling of helping each other and getting on with it.  The staff were as always in tremendous form and their help is second to none and quite simply we would not be able to put on these trips if we did not have a core number of staff who put themselves about, helping the children, leading by example and thoroughly enjoying the whole escapade.

Although we had a bit of rain when we pitched camp, the weekend was one of sun and wind and all of the boys and girls will have a favourite part: Was it the river rafting?  Was it the duckying on Loch Tay?  Was it the munro Ben Chonzie on the Sunday – climbed by every single one of the children – or was it just playing on the campsite with your friends whether it be rounders, soccer, cricket, hide and seek or relaxing in the tents.  Glenalmond in May is a beautiful place for us to spend a few days; the Perthshire Highlands are always glorious and we all were treated to some very welcoming food organised by Mrs Elder and I think I can remember seeing Cuan with a Carlsberg in his hand at some stage!

These events are so much fun for us all and a big big vote of thanks to the children for their determination and to the staff for setting just the right tone of serious challenge and fun.  We shall be writing to Glenalmond to offer our thanks for the excellent hospitality; the use of the land around Skrines; the use of loos and showers; the use of the estate and the pack lunches on Saturday and Sunday!
