Cargilfield School was founded in 1873 as a Charitable Trust and is run by the Board of Governors, who are appointed according to the Trust’s rules. The Board aims to be representative of a range of skills and experience, including existing parents and educational professionals.

The Governors meet once a term and deal with all aspects of school governance under the guidance of the Headmaster. Governors also attend school events and assist the Headmaster in some aspects of running the school such as finance, marketing, property, development and charitable status. The position of Governor is unpaid.
