The curriculum is at its broadest at this stage with the
introduction of Greek and the main focus is preparation for
examinations to senior schools. Pupils generally sit either
the Common Entrance Examination or a Scholarship examination
and here we have an enviable
record. Boys and girls regularly
achieve scholarships and our Common Entrance candidates consistently
pass into their first choice senior school.
A good deal of time is devoted to preparing all pupils for
life at their senior school. A number of pressing social
issues that will undoubtedly confront pupils as they grow
through adolescence are tackled in our Personal and Social
Development lessons and we advise our senior pupils on how
best to take advantage of all that their senior schools will
have to offer.
The academic programme is enhanced with several annual trips
that allow our pupils to broaden their experience of learning.
A Geography field trip relates directly to their final examinations,
a French trip helps considerably with their understanding
of French language and culture and a Rome trip gives them
a chance to explore the city’s treasures.
Main Upper School BuildingWe see it very much as part of our role to advise parents on which senior school is best for their son or daughter. We have well-established links with senior schools in Edinburgh, Scotland and England and we try to discuss possibilities with parents at an early stage. We are happy to make initial contact with senior schools and to advise on what to anticipate, what to ask and what to look for when you do visit a school.
