Preparation for Exams

Boys and girls are prepared for both the Common Entrance 13 plus to senior schools and some are prepared for academic scholarships. The academic scholarships are set by the individual schools.

Our curriculum is extensive; not only do we offer the core subjects but Cargilfield boys and girls study Latin – over 20 also take Greek – and in addition to French, some of our pupils take Spanish. Mandarin is a club.

Learning from the world around us

Supporting our academic programme is the city of Edinburgh, so full of historical, geographical and scientific places of interest. We also take trips to Glasgow, Perth and Dundee; children of all ages can enjoy the remarkable environment around us. All Cargilfield pupils in year 7 attend a 3 day Science and Geography fieldtrip at the Burn House on the North Esk in Kincardineshire and trips to Italy and France are arranged on a regular basis. All of these help to broaden the horizons of our pupils; allow them to experience foreign languages on site and many new challenges.

Exciting programs outside the classroom

You will see from other parts of the website that there is an extensive program of extracurricular activities, not just in art, drama and sport. There are over 80 clubs during the school week and regular school adventure trips take place where we introduce children to the excitement of the outdoors. The hills, lochs and rivers of Angus and Perthshire are within easy reach of the Cargilfield pupil; we also go down to the borders and there is a week-long camp in the Lake District.
