Your child can 2 weekly board, weekly board or flexi-board at Cargilfield. Many day pupils enjoy coming in for weekends when they experience the fun of boarding from as young as 8 years old. Cargilfield offers a unique approach to boarding in Scotland and it offers boys and girls the chance to take their first steps towards independence in a familiar, secure yet very stimulating environment.

At Cargilfield, the happiness and welfare of the boys and girls is of paramount importance. We have a reputation for being a happy, caring, family school and this is in no small part due to the idea of having fun: the emphasis is on the children to have fun among their friends while learning to participate fully in the community life at the school. They have a unique opportunity to extend their learning, social and recreational experiences through the rich program of activities which take place every evening and weekend. Boarding, with its emphasis on valuing others and getting along together, has always been part of life at Cargilfield.

Boarding also requires a strong emphasis on pastoral care and a team of matrons and boarding tutors create this safe and secure ”family feel” for the boarders. The latest care commission inspection, commenting on our boarding provisions, stated that one of our key strengths was “happy, confident and mature pupils who identified strongly with the boarding house and the school”.

The School Council

The school council is a long established feature of the school. The council meets at least 3 times a term under the leadership of the prefects. The purpose of the council is to promote ideas which will enhance the boarding lives of boys and girls at Cargilfield. The pupils on the council also raise and discuss matters which concern them and it gives the children a very positive way to help the running of Cargilfield. Members of the council are changed on a termly basis.

Many parents start by boarding their children at weekends or perhaps they come as weekly boarders. As they grow in confidence, we find that they often prefer to be at school and this often develops into 2 weekly boarding. Many children come as 2 weekly boarders at the outset. Whichever route they take, Cargilfield pupils will move on to their next school feeling confident, courteous and willing to rise to many challenges.

At Cargilfield every family can find the right balance between home and school life and each child has the chance to thrive in the best of both worlds during their most formative years.
