introText | More marvellous music! |
leftColBody | It has been such a busy and successful term for our musicians as we have begun to perform to small live audiences again, and the children have certainly enjoyed the thrill of playing in front of people rather than a video camera! Our Pipe Band have performed a number of times, the Chapel Choir have sung beautifully in our formal services, we have had some intimate recitals in front of parents for selected musicians and this week we had our first school concert for a very long time and it was lovely to hear the children perform so confidently; we really are hoping that we will be able to welcome more parents to our musical events next term, fingers crossed! In the meantime, we hope you enjoy watching our final mini concert of the term and that you all have a lovely holiday! You can watch the concert here |

introText | Some fabulous performances! |
leftColBody | What a wonderful Scottish Concert our musicians put on in Chapel on Tuesday afternoon! At long last they were able to play in front of the whole school, albeit without any parents, but it was so good to have a live audience once again. Many thanks to Dr Allsop and her talented team of music teachers for all their hard work preparing the children! |

leftColBody | Stripes 1st Match vs Strathallan Won 5-1 2nd Match vs Strathallan Won 5-2 The stripe team had some very good team play. Clearly practising our passes everyday payed off as we move the ball really well. It was two very tough games but our ruthlessness in front of goal was key. I was very impressed with the whole team but Oliver B had an outstanding performance scoring and assisting a few goals. Well done on a great season boys. Blues 1st match v Strathallan Won 10-2 2nd match vs Strathallan Won 6-3 The blue team played some very good hockey with some strong stick skills on show. Everybody was showing a good level considering their age. All the boys were passing and stopping effectively. I was also impressed to see us trying to play with some shape and to pass the ball around. There were some good passages of play and we scored some good goals. Well played, boys. |

introText | Lots of fun in the sun at Craigclowan! |
leftColBody | On a stunning Spring day our U9 Mixed Hockey Team headed north to Craigclowan to take part in their annual Hockey Festival. What transpired was a wonderful day of fun and Hockey in the sun with both teams improving as the day went on. Both teams were involved in difficult games versus a strong Craigclowan A Team, that being said both Cargilfield squads played with real tenacity and skill to remain in the game. From there, the teams played each other in an entertaining and open contest in which Team Lemmer beat Team Stephen with Teddy, Isla M and Florence playing a starring role. With two comfortable wins for both teams over a Craigclowan B Team, confidence was renewed for the final games of the day against Kilgraston. Here Bea D-H and Ethan ran the show, scoring arguably the goal of the tournament with some wonderful build up play and led to a 4-1 victory. Put simply, this was not about the results, it was pure enjoyment had by all the U9’s who went north and represented the school with such enthusiasm and skill! |

introText | A super end to the season! |
leftColBody | Last game of the season and we travelled North to Strathallan. The squad consisting of Aglaya, Valentina, Olivia, Isla C, Emily, Emilia DH, Nadia and Lotte CB were excited to start. Strathallan started the game with the center pass. The whole quarter was very quiet with little communication from both teams and Cargilfield making many of their pass loopy over the opposition’s heads using our height as an advantage. This worked to keep possession however the game was very messy and we needed to tighten up on our movement around the court, footwork and accurate passing with speed. At each quarter we made some small changes having the advantage of a sub with fresh legs ready to come on. The girls by half time had started to gel well and were hungry for the ball snatching and going towards the ball to keep it in our possession. The girls had a great final game of the season winning 25-3 and should be proud of their performance this season, well done! |

perch_introText | A super end to the season! |
perch_leftColBody | Last game of the season and we travelled North to Strathallan. The girls had a great final game of the season winning 25-3 and should be proud of their performance this season, well done! |

introText | AA great end to the season! |
leftColBody | We enjoyed a more competitive game than the score line suggests against our friends from Forgandenny. It was the Strathallan boys who opened the scoring and pressed hard for the first 10 minutes. In the end, our fitness came through and we started playing some good passing hockey. With 12 players all itching to get on the pitch, we ended up doing a 5 minute rotation in groups of 4 and this seemed to work. Everyone got to play in attack, in defense and everyone had their turn of waiting. Some great passing out wide gave us a lot of space, which we exploited with some clever passes down the wing. This stretched the Strathallan defenders and made space for some simple tap in goals. Well played, boys. |

introText | A great end to the season, girls! |
leftColBody | It was a lovely day for our last fixture of the season. After having played with depleted teams for the last couple of week sit was good to have the team back together and raring to go. We had been working on our set plays in our training lessons and were keen to give them a go in a match situation. We started strongly and took an early lead. Tunrayo was on fantastic form today and she and Judith dominated in the D and scored some amazing goals. After half time Emse came on and was also shooting very well from the back of the D. Her marking and interception were really well today and she got in front of the Strath defenders really well. Anna was terrific in the centre and worked well with Lottie and Maddie. Izzy was incredibly fast today dodging around her marker and whizzing about the court and saving lots of balls from going off at the side line. Our defence was formidable with Lucy, Annika and Venetia all on their best form. Our last quarter was less successful than the other 3. I think perhaps we were quite tired as we had been playing at a tremendous pace. Strath were determined not to give up and came back strongly. However, we held on for the win. Final score Cargilfield 29, Strathallan 19 |

introText | A tough encounter! |
leftColBody | Unfortunately the girls didn’t come away with a win today, the final score being 10-2 in favour of Strathallan. The girls demonstrated some great netball skills, for instance in defence Anne put great pressure on the opposition which led to both Beth and Lexie making some great plays to intercept Strathallan’s passes, resulting in a turnover of the ball. The girls playing mid-court and offensive positions, Rowan, Bea, Hattie and Amalia worked well together to swiftly move the ball down to our attacking end. The effective play by these girls led to Tessa and Lyla taking some great shots which accounted for the team’s two points. Overall it was a great game thanks to the tough competition. Congratulations to Amalia who was awarded Woman of the Match by the opposing team. |

leftColBody | Last weekend, a group of Form 7 and 8 pupils spent the weekend enjoying the fabulous weather whilst completing their NNAS bronze navigator award. Over the weekend, they developed the skills to orientate the map using ground features and a compass, estimate distance using both timing and pacing, and recognise contour features, alongside learning about the Scottish Outdoor Access Code, route planning and emergency procedures. Congratulations to all of them, having passed their practical assessment yesterday! |

introText | Two fantastic games of hockey! |
leftColBody | We travelled to Dunbar with 3 teams and I had the pleasure of taking the As and Cs and Mr Stephen coached and umpired the B team against Belhaven.
Then there was Honour up front - new to hockey this year but a regular Thursday evening hockey club attendee and his promise showed as he managed to roll the ball under the Belhaven goalie's foot in the first half to take a deserved lead. Incidentally, this was the first time the Belhaven boy had put on a goalie kit and did a commendable job, making quite a few saves - the pace of Honour's shot deceived him some what and he miss-timed the clearance. Our own goalie, Hugh who is so enthusiastic about donning the Obo kit and stepping into the large frame of a goal had to make a few of his own saves in this match and some were real crackers including a sliding challenge to push the ball past the post. Late on in the second half however, the defence was exposed and even though Belhaven had a couple of attempts, Hugh wasn't able to keep that one out. I don't think I have ever umpired a C game that hasn't ended in a score draw and it couldn't be more fitting in this one as no team deserved to lose. What a pleasure it was taking this group of boys and I am slightly envious of Mr Tinkler on a Wednesday because they quite simply were the most entertaining and delightful group I've had on a minibus in some time - no offence A team! Well played, boys and especially well done to Sasha who was player of the match! |

introText | A fabulous day at Belhaven |
leftColBody | On Thursday, a group of Form 5 children went to Belhaven for the first Climate Conference of Prep Schools. The event was inspired by both COP26 and David Attenborough’s Earthshot Prize and it aimed to initiate discussions about issues presented by climate change and possible solutions. There were three parts to the day: firstly, we had a talk from Surfers against Sewage where we were encouraged to “act local and think global” by doing small things in our community that contribute to a wider effort to help our planet. Secondly, there was a collaborative art project that visually represented the impact of climate change on one side, and the positive results of efforts to tackle these issues. Finally, each school was asked to bring an initiative to the day that focused on a key issue and present it to a panel of judges from the Sustainability Sector. Cargilfield's idea to incentivise pupils to reduce the carbon emissions of their journey to school was lucky enough to win and we would like to thank Belhaven for a wonderful day! |

introText | A fabulous day of STEM Education! |
leftColBody | Last Thursday, the Upper School took part in their STEM day. The day began with a talk from Henry Collin, Technical Director at Ecus, an environmental consultancy firm, before the children split off into their groups to design a house which could withstand flooding. They had lots to consider, including the environmental impact, the cost, and the properties of the materials. At the end of the day, the children presented their designs to each other. Well done to all of the children for their creative designs, and particularly well done to Bruce for winning the competition. |

introText | What delicious cakes! |
leftColBody | Nursery children have been working a lot on SHANNARI and how we can be respectful, responsible etc. We have been working lots on being kind to our friends. Whilst in the play dough area some of the children were making cupcakes and giving them to the teachers. The children were telling them why they deserve a cake. We decided to make real cakes and given them to teachers and staff around the school. |

introText | More lovely performances! |
leftColBody | Welcome to another mini concert! As always, there are some lovely performances this week from children right across the school, some just starting out on their musical journey and others who are more experienced. Thank you to our fabulous team of music teachers who work so hard with the children every week and to parents who encourage good practice habits at home! We hope you enjoy watching it, and there are some special performances at the end of children who are taking part in the Shrewsbury School Prep Schools' online music competition. |

introText | A tight contest! |
leftColBody | On a wet spring day in East Lothian our U11B Hockey looked to finish their season on a high against a strong Belhaven side. The boys started the game well, with some sweet interplay that led to an early chance for the lively Theo. As the boys grew into the game, they started to try to do too much individually that led to a rather disjointed half of Hockey. That was until Edward benefitted from a couple of keeper errors to score two quick goals and give Cargilfield a comfortable lead at the break. The second half was much of the same and the boys looked comfortable throughout, but only really sealed the game with a fabulous finish from player of the match, Theo. A frustrating afternoon, but the boys won, despite it not being the prettiest of performances. |

introText | Some terrific netball, girls! |
leftColBody | A Team: Today our opposition were Belhaven that brought a squad of 7 that played our A team first. The A Team captained by Millie F started off strong with the girls moving around the court and into spaces. We did however get called up a number of times for footwork. As the game progressed the girl’s confidence and communication started to gel and the ball was being passed well through the central players Nancy, Emily and Olivia to our shooters Isla G and Lotte CB that were working well as a team. Our defenders Athena and Millie did a great job of defending the net. At half time the team discussed marking our players better as they were starting to follow the ball. Belhaven also started to defend well using their height to intercept the ball. Our shooters managed to score 9 goals with Belhaven finishing on 2. Well done! B Team: Captained by Emilia M, the team started off the game finding the opposition more challenging. The girls were moving around the court and needed to build their confidence in attack. The girl’s footwork having discussed it prior to the match was excellent. Our central players of Lotte B, Cecilia and Emilia M worked well to pass the ball from defence to attack. The first half finished 2-0 to Belhaven. At half time some positions were swapped and the game continue to go from strength to strength with our shooters scoring 4 goals however Belhaven put up some great competition came back with 3 goals finishing on the final whistle 5-4 to Belhaven. Well done girls for excellent teamwork. |

introText | Well played, girls! |
leftColBody | Whilst it was a shame that Ardvreck could not play, as planned, the U9 girls were delighted to play Belhaven. We fielded two teams against their team and decided to put out the B team first. Belhaven started strongly and scored an early goal, despite Clara and Alexandra’s best efforts in defence. It did not take us long to get back however. Initially we seemed to freeze for a minute or two when we lost the ball but with some encouragement we got back in our positions and marked more closely. We managed to get the ball to Lily who was shooting very accurately. Belhaven scored a further three but Lily scored a total of five, leading to a final score of Cargilfield B 5: Belhaven 3. Well done to all the girls, but particularly to Clara, who is playing much better and to Ailsa SA, who is defending well and passing with good speed and accuracy. The A team enjoyed playing half the game against the same Belhaven team, but it was clear that we were stronger. Alice scored once, and Zinnia, twice, giving us a good lead. We swopped Glory and Ailsa in, to try to even it up, but our passing was good and we managed to get the ball to Glory, who also proved to be a good shooter. She scored two. So Cargilfield led the half 5:0. As Belhaven were a little tired we decided to mix the girls up and we played a blue team against a red team. What fun we had! The blue team won in the end, with Alice scoring two and Belhaven’s Iris one. It was a nice way to finish a fun afternoon of netball. I was very pleased to see both Cargilfield teams working hard on their marking. It is definitely getting better. Well done, girls! |

introText | Some fabulous teamwork, boys! |
leftColBody | Belhaven’s Under-9 boys travelled up from Dunbar on Wednesday’s to take on our boys. Each school fielded two teams who then played two matches each. The Cargilfield boys displayed some of their finest hockey of the season, with a noticeable improvement in their passing - something they have been working hard on in training. Some good individual skills complimented the team-work and the boys also exerted themselves to contribute to the team’s defensive effort. This provided a good platform for attack play, leading to several fine goals. The result of this was confident wins for both of the home teams. Both Belhaven and Cargilfield showed good sportsmanship and determination over the course of the afternoon, so well done to everyone involved. |

introText | To boldly go where no man has gone before! |
leftColBody | There was much excitement on P2 Space Day as we were put through our paces trying the various tasks that astronauts might have to perform living on board the International Space Station. We started with the tricky challenge of using our ‘space gloves’. Not the easiest of equipment we realised as we tried to sort space rocks and planet dust to take home for scientific analysis. Trickier still was trying to fit nuts onto bolts with a screwdriver when wearing thick, padded space gloves, and looking through a visor at the same time! Luckily, we had the ground crew in NASA’s mission control giving us instructions and we managed to get the job done. We had the fiddly task of creating a chain to attach ourselves to when venturing outside the station. We stuck at this with determination and created some impressively long chains. We then had to put on our spacesuits and venture outside the ISS on a spacewalk to repair some of the equipment. We wore belts with carabiners tethered to a handrail and had to make sure we did not unclip both carabiners at the same time or we would have floated away! Safely back inside the station we were given the unenviable task of sucking up ‘poo’ and depositing it in the ‘trash’ module! We sampled some Space Food then launched our own mini rockets by blowing into a straw. Whilst there was much fun to be had we concluded that life must be quite challenging for an astronaut! |

leftColBody | For the first time in two years P3 performed in Chapel in front of parents their play ‘Jonah: a fishy tail’! A fantastic performance and all P3s should be very proud of their delivery of lines, acting, singing and dancing. A huge thank you to the art department and all the staff who helped with the lighting, tech, acting and dancing. But a special well done to all the children who worked so hard and put so much effort into their performance. To see more photographs, click here. |

introText | Some terrific games against older girls! |
leftColBody | U9 Netball versus Loretto U10s A team lost 4-10 B team lost 2-7 The Under 9s took on the Loretto U10 netball teams today. As they were two players short, we also played with 2 U10s Ceci and Thalia, to facilitate 14 players for each school. The As played first and the first quarter was very close, with Loretto edging it 3 goals to our two goals from Zinnia and Alice. We tried hard but Loretto were stronger and their shooters were improving in accuracy all the time. Thalia came on in Glory’s position as poor Glory received a bump and sustained a nose bleed. We continued to battle but Loretto were clearly better at getting into spaces. Too often our passes went adrift or even straight to the opposition. We moved positions in the third quarter and Thalia scored a fine goal. Lily and Helena tried very hard to prevent the shooter from scoring but three further goals were scored. Ceci came on in the fourth quarter and it was much tighter. We had a few more attempts to score but did not manage it unfortunately. The final score was Loretto 10 Cargilfield 4. Florence and Glory kindly played with Loretto’s B team and they were good sports to do so. They also played well in their positions. The Cargilfield girls tried very hard and did not give up but we were not managing to keep possession. We need to pass more accurately and take less risks. Whilst we did pass to each other and left no one out, Loretto often managed to steal the ball back. Once again, their shooting accuracy was good and whilst Ailsa fought hard a total of 7 goals were scored to our two. Jemima and Clara played well as centre and wing attack often passing the ball between each other. It was not our day however and the final score was Loretto 7 Cargilfield 2. Never mind! We all had fun and enjoyed playing netball! |

The girls remained in the lead the whole game but it was not a done deal and they had to work hard for their win. They did loose the ball to some footwork issues but most of the game went with a good communication between our players and they did not lose the ball to other mistakes such as contacts or not marking properly, as they had in previous matches. Cargilfield had 11 players today, so the girls had a chance to swap positions and have a break during one or two quarters. They started with a strong attack with Bea, our captain, in WA, replaced by Rowan in the second quarter. We had Amalia in C, Julia in GA and Amenah in GS. Amenah’s shooting was very accurate and she managed to score most of the balls she received in the circle. In defence we had in turns (in the first two quarters) Emilia and Lexie in GK, Lyla and Anne in WD and finally Lara and Tessa in GD. Those two really used their height to their advantage to defend the Cargilfield net. The girls got more freedom in choosing their position after the first half of the game as they were winning. Well done, girls, on a very good game against an excellent team. |

introText | A terrific performance, boys! |
leftColBody | On a blustery afternoon at Cargilfield our 3rd XI took on our cross-town rivals George Watson’s. With a number of absences due to illness our team featured two Form 6 players in Mack and Theo who were keen to impress, alongside the gnarled experience of Otis, Zain and Thomas. From the outset the boys played with a lovely tempo and were passing the ball crisply around the back. Youngster, Theo was flanked by two wise heads in Zayn and Thomas, when the latter ran into the D he drew a foul and showed great composure to slot the running penalty. Another goal came moments later and the boys looked in total control as the half drew to a close. To Watson’s credit they came out firing after the break and thanks to Mack in goal the score remained 2-0 to Cargilfield. The pressure was mounting and two quick fire goals from Watson’s in the closing moments made it appear that a draw was inevitable. That was until, Otis found Thomas who quickly switched the ball left to Zayn who slotted the winner in the final moments. Although the win was welcome, most pleasing was the way in which boys from a variety of year groups played so constructively together. Well done, gents! |

introText | Some super teamwork, boys! |
leftColBody | After half the squad travelled to Loretto last week, the rest of the boys who were fit and healthy took their turn to travel there this week. The boys were split into two 5-man teams; the first team were able to successfully control the ball and managed to create a good number of opportunities to score. Arlo was particularly hungry for the ball and his interference in the opposition’s half of the pitch directly lead to a few goals and a win in the end. The other team had a tougher time of it but they battled hard throughout their match to ensure that they created chances. Honour, who was playing on the wing for the first time, stood out in this game with some great tackling and incisive attacking play. Unfortunately, they narrowly lost the match in the end. It was pleasing to see that our passing is improving and the boys are making more use of the wings. All of the boys played well and should be proud of their efforts. Most importantly, they showed good sportsmanship on the day. |

introText | A fabulous few days up North! |
leftColBody | On Thursday 3rd March our Form 6 & 8 girls headed North to Gordonstoun, stopping first in Aberdeen to play games against Robert Gordon College. RGC were fantastic hosts, booking netball courts at the local Beach Club Sports Centre and providing competitive games. We then continued North to the beautiful grounds at Gordonstoun set in the countryside near Elgin. Altyre Boarding House was our home for the two nights. The girls woke early on Friday morning to a stunning sunrise and joined the Gordonstoun Prep Boarders for an early breakfast. We were then taken on a wonderful tour of the vast school campus including The Round Square, the Schools Fire Station, Michael Kirk in the woods, the School Chapel designed like a giant open book and spotting Prince Charles’ boarding house. It was great to see some of our former pupils again including Ruby, Sabine and Zara and then later Maclean and Austin. The girls then split into groups and had the opportunity to try some of the school's facilities including rock climbing, shooting and the assault course. After lunch we headed to the sports hall for our netball games. This included two Under 13 games and one Under 11. All games were of a highly competitive level with both schools highlighting their strengths. The evening finished with marshmallows around the braziers at the Prep Boarding House. Gordonstoun were fantastic hosts and we look forward to meeting them on the Netball court in the future. |

They discovered lots of other farm animals, learned a little about the history of farming and managed to fit in an archaeological dig in the sand as well as playing on some farming-themed equipment. The sandwiches were a little soggy due to the rain, but it didn't matter; everyone had a wonderful time.

introText | A lovely day of music making! |
leftColBody | A group of children from Forms 5-7 joined with pupils from Ardvreck and Kilgraston Schools to form a string orchestra on Friday 4th March. We warmed up with some musical games and then moved on to rehearsals. In just a few hours the children put together polished performances of two pieces. Unfortunately Kilgraston was not able to welcome parents for this event, but Mrs McGinty, the Headmistress, and our own Heather Thomson were treated to a private performance which was recorded to share with friends and family. Well done to all the children for excellent concentration and for working so collaboratively with the pupils from other schools. It was a real pleasure to be able to travel out for a musical event once again. |

perch_introText | A lovely day of music making! |
perch_leftColBody | A group of children from Forms 5-7 joined with pupils from Ardvreck and Kilgraston Schools to form a string orchestra on Friday 4th March. It was a real pleasure to be able to travel out for a musical event once again. |

introText | Always look on the bright side of life! |
leftColBody | It is so easy to fall into a trap of feeling down in the dumps. Especially in the world we live in today, where more often than not, depressing news flashes before us on TVs, phones and computers. We now know that just a few minutes spent consuming negative news in the morning can affect the entire emotional trajectory of your day. Children are similar in this regard; focusing on negative news can impact the learning/ productivity of learners in school. It is for this reason that we must recognise the importance of developing a positive attitude. Below are some simple steps that may help you and your child find a more positive mindset in your daily lives. As a teacher, I am going to find more time in the school day to include some of the following: Loving Kindness Meditation Take some time to engage in meditation. Slowing down and sharing positive thoughts about one another can boost our self-esteem. The four traditional phrases are, “May you feel safe. May you feel happy. May you feel healthy. May you live with ease’. Helping Others Think about asking your child to help an elderly neighbour or grandparents. You could make volunteering a regular family affair and help out at a soup kitchen or another charitable organisation. Recording Awe Moments Encourage your child to create an Awe Journal. In their journal they can record any sights or moments that they found beautiful or extraordinary. It could be anything, from a freshy baked loaf of bread to a fantastic theatre performance. Can be recorded with drawings, descriptions, poems, etc. Setting and Achieving Goals Help your child to set goals and visualise and plan for obstacles in advance. Follow the WOOP approach: Wish, Outcome, Obstacle, Plan. This approach makes it more likely that your child will actually achieve their goals, resulting in confidence and a more positive attitude. Sharing Positivity Share positive experiences with your child. Tell funny stories about your day, reminisce on holidays or trips away. Enjoy your time together. Developing New Skills and Trying New Activities Recognise your child’s strengths and give them the opportunities to develop them and experience success. If your child expresses interest in a new activity, let them try it out. You could even go along too! Practising Positive Affirmations Guide your child to come up with affirmations that are short, positive and present tense: I am kind. I am loving. I am fun. Use them in a playful manner. PJ |

leftColBody | Welcome to our latest weekly Mini Concert! As always, the children have put in some excellent performances and it is super to see a number from the Pre prep this week - we hope you enjoy it! We saw another live recital on Monday evening when we welcomed a small number of parents in to Chapel to watch those children who are performing in the Edinburgh Music Competition throughout this week; the standard of musicianship was so high and there have been some excellent results from the competition which has been lovely! As always, a big thank you to our team of music teachers for all their hard work, and do get in touch with Dr Allsop if you would like to take part in next week's concert! Watch the concert here. |

leftColBody | A terrific afternoon of hockey and netball as we hosted the IAPS representative hockey and netball matches on Wednesday between the Saltires, the Thistles and the Caledonians. All the matches were closely fought and the final result was in doubt right up to the end with the Saltires emerging victorious in both competitions but by the narrowest of margins. Well done to all those who took part and it was lovely to welcome so many parents to Cargilfield on what was a tremendous afternoon of Prep School sport! |

introText | A super team performance, boys! |
leftColBody | On a blustery day over at Loretto our U9 squad looked to continue the positive progress that has been made this term developing their hockey skills. After a goalless first quarter of attritional hockey the Cargilfield men knew a reaction was needed. That came from player of the match Michael who’s timely interception and well timed pass set up Geordie for the first goal of the game. That in many ways allowed the flood gates to open and Cargilfield started to play some fabulous hockey and moved the ball freely around the Loretto team. Two goals typified the performance: the first a wonderful counterattack move led by Wilfred that was finished by Jamie, but showcased the effort the boys put into their performance today. Secondly, a wonderful move from left to right that was finished by Salman and where nearly every Cargilfield player touched the ball. An excellent performance, well done! |

introText | Two terrific games of netball! |
leftColBody | U11A and U11B Netball vs Loretto It was wonderful to play on Loretto’s senior school netball courts today. Our U11 teams captained by Nancy and Nadia showed excellent accuracy, speed and determination throughout both of their matches. Loretto had two strong teams and at half time, their A team were in the lead by just one goal. Our B team was in the lead at half time by a single goal too. The second halves of both games were even more exciting than the first with some very fast but brilliant play! A hat trick of goals from Lottie CB secured a win for Cargilfield’s B team. Loretto’s A team managed to run away with the win during the second half of their match. Some star performances from Isla C as centre and Lottie CB in attack – super players of the match! Final Scores: A Team – 19 – 12 (Loretto) B Team – 14 – 12 (Cargilfield) Well done to everyone who played! |

perch_introText | Two terrific games of netball! |
perch_leftColBody | U11A and U11B Netball vs Loretto It was wonderful to play on Loretto’s senior school netball courts today. Final Scores: A Team – 19 – 12 (Loretto) B Team – 14 – 12 (Cargilfield) Well done to everyone who played! |

introText | A terrific team performance, girls! |
leftColBody | Netball U13D vs Fettes Cargilfield: 9 Fettes: 1 Our U13 team had a lot of fun on this match. They were playing outside but they did not get a chance to get cold on the court. The Fettes girls were playing their first match of the season and they were good at keeping the ball moving and keeping the game interesting. The Cargilfield girls were allowed to choose the positions they wanted to play and they could swap between each quarter. It made for a good game with Julia, Amenah and Anne being, in turns, GS or GA. The centre position changed a few times as well, but was mainly played by Amalia, our captain for the day. In defending and attacking we had, at different times, Emilia, Rowan, Lyla, Hattie and Natasha. Overall, the girls managed to pass the ball very well. They still need to work on their footwork though. Another aspect to improve will be to move when one of them has the ball, to create some openings, by dodging the person marking them. Well done, girls, it was a brilliant game. |

leftColBody | U12 Hockey v Clifton Hall Won 4 - 0 Our intrepid team of U12 Girls took on Clifton Hall on a freezing afternoon. We played on a 4G football pitch, so the play was slow and it was hard to play a wide, expansive, passing style of Hockey that we are used to. The girls adapted admirably well to a more confrontational and abrasive brand of Hockey. We learnt to pass the ball almost immediately as using any kind of skills on such a slow surface meant being tackled. We learnt to flick the ball or sweep hard to make a pass. Hitting was very difficult and reverse hits were also very hard. There was courage and good skills on show. After dominating play and spending a significant period of the match in the Clifton Hall D, we managed to find our way past some robust defence to score some goals. Well played girls. |

introText | Lots of excellent play, girls! |
leftColBody | Red team lost 3-10 Green team won 8-1 We played 2 matches this afternoon on the preprep astro. There were a few throws that went over the third as it is a small pitch, but we did enjoy the netball and it was lovely to have some Mums spectating! We played High Five netball, 4 rotations of six minutes, allowing the girls to experience playing in different positions. Zinnia was our outstanding player in the Red team, moving very well around the pitch, strong in both attacking and defending positions. Alexandra also shone, managing to get into spaces well and passing the ball on accurately. Fettes were much better at marking however and often won the ball back quickly. This will be a target for our Under 9s- to improve at marking and getting free for the ball. Whilst Isla, Livia and Zinnia did score 3 lovely goals, it was not to be and we were defeated with the final score of Fettes 10 Cargilfield 3. The Green team started with a very strong first rotation. It was lovely to see Lily our new member of Form 4 play well and shoot so accurately. She scored 3 goals and Alice scored also. The rotations meant that the match was closer in the second and third rotations and the play was more even at this point. It was great to see Beatrice score. We finished strongly again with 3 further goals: 2 from Clara and 1 from Jemima. Final score Cargilfield 8 Fettes 1. Livia and Jemima were our captains and they did a marvellous job looking after Fettes. Well done to all the girls! It was a fun packed afternoon of netball. |

introText | A fabulous afternoon for running! |
leftColBody | What a fantastic afternoon we had in the sunshine at Merchiston for their annual Cross Country Relay races. We took a total of 17 teams to the event and this was the first time that girls were invited to take part. The Cargilfield girls and boys were on great form and all 51 of them ran their hardest on what is always a gruelling course with some tight sections and steep hills. Although we didn't win any of the relays, our U9A Girls' Team, U9A Boys' Team, U11A Girls' Team and U13A Girls' Team all came second in their races - a great achievement against some very strong and competitive schools. Congratulations to the Merchiston U13A team who beat their own course record! Well done to all the Cargilfield children who took part and a special thanks to those who stood in at the last minute for those who were absent. |

introText | Lots of fun in the Borders! |
leftColBody | Last weekend, two groups of Form 7 and 8 pupils set off down to the Borders to spend the night in a bothy. We started with a 6.5km walk in to the bothy carrying all of our sleeping bags, food, and clothing, before setting up some tents and collecting water from the river for boiling before we could drink it. For dinner, the children helped to cook a delicious curry, and we then played some card games by candle-light before bed. In the morning, we had an early start, enjoyed some porridge and pancakes, and then walked back to the minibus.Very well done to all those involved - a new experience for many, and heavy bags/sore feet for all! |
