It was rainy start to the season. We ran for shelter throughout the game due to heavy April showers. It was a new mix of girls in the U11 team, but they worked well together and used each other’s skills to their advantage. Issy was captain and led her team with words of encouragement. We started the first innings batting. The girls had excellent contact with the ball, and took their time to think about their swing instead of panicking. Almost everyone scored a rounder or half rounder in their first round of batting. Catherine risked it early on in the game, which unfortunately put her out. Issy and Saphira worked brilliantly together to get several of the Ardvreck girls out at first base. This was Flora’s first rounder game bowling in the U11s but she threw confidently and accurately. Hannah worked hard at 4th base in the second innings, stumping a few Ardvreck girls out. Alannah and Laura communicated really well on second base, calling to each other who would get the ball, without hesitation. Rosanna and Katinka made some terrific catches, which is something the team all need to work on moving forward. For some of the Ardvreck girls, it was their girls experience playing rounders: we hope it was a memorable one. Luckily the sun shone for match tea as the girls enjoyed doughnuts as they chatted on the grass. A great first game to get us ready for the rest of the season. A 33-5 win!
