1st Rounders at Kilgraston Tournament

Some good performances from the girls!

Despite the poor weather forecast, the girls were lucky up at Kilgraston and enjoyed a dry and at times, warm afternoon for the annual tournament.   All matches were 8 minute innings so time was very much of the essence.

Our first match was against Ardvreck and we played fairly well, but it was clear that we had more to give. Our batting was consistent with scores from Emma, Flora S, Ellie, Izzy, Amelia, Rosanna and Alannah pushing our total to 6. Our fielding was strong in this match and Sophie had 2 lovely catches on balls 2 and 9. Ellie looked sharp at 2 and put out one player, followed quickly by Amelia who put out another at 1.

Cargilfield 6 Ardvreck 2

Our next match was against Craigclowan and we batted first. Izzy was put out on ball 2 for over-running post 2 which was a little bit of a harsh decision but one which she won’t repeat again! We had some good batting and running from the girls; Sophie found her batting form and scored 2, and we had 1 ½ rounders from Emma and Flora, rounders from Ellie and Alannah and half rounders from Amelia, Katie and Rosanna. Rosanna bowled well in this match and it was great to see her play so consistently.

We faced Strathallan next who were looking sharp and ended up the eventual winners. Sophie was caught on ball 1 which was an unlucky way to start the match. Emma stepped in to bat and played particularly well in this game, steadying the ship and scoring well. We lost Amelia and Alannah quickly and Flora was caught on her second ball. This match saw some determined running from Emma, Ellie and Alannah which made for a close game. Izzy was our strongest player in this match, hitting well and running hard. Ellie also was a star running round the bases and moved with determination and speed. The Strath girls stepped in to bat and scored pretty consistently. We had some good stumping out from Ellie and Izzy, and Sophie made a catch behind but sadly the opposition’s batting was just a little too strong for us and we lost narrowly.

Cargilfield 6 ½ Strathallan 10

Our final match was against Loretto and it was lovely to see the girls relax and play some great rounders. We batted first and whole rounders soon started from the girls; confident batting was on show in this game and we soon started pushing our score in to double figures. Emma hit the ball well again and Ellie managed to sneak a whole rounder after a hit behind and some poor fielding from Loretto. Alannah ran well round the posts and it was great to see her play so confidently. Two rounders were scored by Sophie, Ellie, Izzy, Amelia and Alannah with Emma and Flora scoring 1 ½ each.

Cargilfileld 14 Loretto 3 ½

We finished second in the pool and with only the winners progressing to the final, we did not have any more matches, so we finished a fun afternoon with a BBQ match tea whilst watching the final of Strathallan v Belhaven. Well done to Strathallan for winning the tournament and thank you to Kilgraston for a really lovely day.
