It was a lovely afternoon of sunshine and some super hockey on show in Crieff. After the Dollar matches were called off, we took some of the Form 6 girls from those games to form a second team. Famke and Bea, the usual U11A and B goalkeepers went into the B squad to play outfield, whilst Amalia was moved in to the A team following her strong performance for the B team against Fettes a fortnight ago.
The B team played terrifically well and passed the ball around nicely. Captained by Lara at the back, we began to move the ball into spaces and our running off the ball was terrific. This allowed Jess some space in the middle and after a burst through on goal, the ball rebounded off the keeper and Famke was there at the top of the D to see it in. Bea followed up with the second in similar circumstances as she reacted well to another good Ardvreck save and that made it at 2-0 at the break.
We talked about how Sophia had barely touched the ball on the right wing and we were playing too much to the left. The aim of the second half was to try to move the ball from the left to the right and at the start of the second half, Sophia found that much wanted space and put in a great cross for Jess to finish beautifully. We played with freedom and determination and none more so than Isabella and Athena who were passing the ball out of defense well. Lara made some superb blocks and didn’t mess around by clearing the danger. Ardvreck had a very able midfielder who was strong on the ball and managed to get a goal back for the home team but Sophia was on hand to restore the 3-goal lead with a lovely placed shot into the bottom corner.
We wrapped things up after some terrific build up play by Dulce who did everything right when on the ball: she turned strong and passed the ball across the D for our 5th and final goal. Natasha didn’t have as much to do as she might have hoped but gained a lot of experience in this match, especially learning about guarding that near post.
Player of the match went to Famke for her excellent outfield play having been the A team goalie for most of the season.
