Form 7B Cricket v Merchiston

Some lovely cameos with bat and ball!

On an afternoon at Cargilfield where the sun came and went, Harry captained the boys in an impressive first outing in nearly 2 years. Merchiston won the toss and elected to bat and began strong with an opening partnership of 34 runs, however a few wickets allowed us to get back in the game. Harry took a nice catch off his own bowling and then next over Cameron took the bails off with a lovely delivery. We also took advantage in the field with 3 run outs, by Leo, Arthur and Otis. However, the opposition did not lose hope and some excellent late bowling, which included Zain taking a wicket and the pick of the bowlers Oscar taking a superb catch into the sun from his own bowling, could not prevent Merchiston from reaching an impressive total of 115 off their 24 overs.

When we came into bat there were many impressive shots played, Leo hit an exquisite 1 bounce 4 at the square leg boundary and Otis played a couple excellent pull shots for 4. Cameron was the highest scoring batsman with 19 runs from his time at the crease, including 3 boundaries. Otis and Theo both also made double figures. However unfortunately it was not to be our day as a late innings collapse gave Merchiston a 22-run victory.

Overall everyone who took part should be very pleased with their performances, and look forward to the next match with lots of positives, as well as one or two areas of improvement.
