U9 Girls off to a winning start!

Some excellent hockey on show

The under nine girls were beyond excited to be playing their first competitive match and what a lovely afternoon to meet our friends in green – Ardvreck. We fielded two mixed teams: the Cheetahs and the Lions. The Cheetahs played the first ten minutes of their game and then allowed the Lions to play. This meant that the girls did not have to wait too long to play and also had time to grab a drink of water.

The Cheetahs began well and had a greater share of the ball but we took a while to get around a strong Ardvreck defence. Isla M and Livia were able to complete some lovely attacking play with a goal each. We ended the first half 2 goals up. When we resumed for the second half, Ardvreck did look more challenging but Helena and Alexandra cleared well and Glory worked hard also in her first match. Alexandra and Isla S-A had some good runs also. It was Isla and Livia who scored the next two goals with Livia executing a superb turn before slotting the ball into the net. Well done the Cheetahs, winning 4 goals to nil.

The Lions also had a very exciting match. Alice played very well as striker scoring 2 goals. Florence was strong on the wing and scored 4 goals. Clara and Jemima also scored giving a fine total of 8 goals. Praise had swopped with Alice and played an important role in Jemina’s goal. The Lions match was a little choppy at times and we will ned to work hard on spreading out and playing for each other. However, it was a very good team effort overall, including some sterling work from Beatrice in defence. I was very encouraged with the effort from all of our girls. They tried very hard to play their best hockey. Well done to all of them!
