U10 Hockey beat Merchiston

An excellent team performance!

The U10 boys played against Merchiston in cold but dry conditions. Our 2 GK’s of Jamie and Max played a half for each team and it was lovely to see them play so well both for and against us! Arthur opened the scoring early in the first half from a lovely cross from Caspian. Oliver quickly swept in another goal despite Max’s best efforts to save. The play then was end to end however our tackling was too good and we quickly turned over play; Edward was particularly strong in defence and looked to move the ball wide to our midfield quickly which helped with the turnover and we relied heavily on him to keep the opposition out the D. A further goal from Caspian not long before half time saw us enter half time 3-0 up.

We were a bit guilty of wandering out of position in the first half so our aim was to stay slightly more structed in the second half. The boys tried hard to do this and this let us spread out a bit and use some lovely wide passes. The Merchiston boys really stuck in and although we have played more hockey than them, it was lovely to see them improve minute by minute. Theo was strong in this half and stuck in, trying hard to drive the ball through. Caspian kept the width and was on the receiving end of many a lovely wide pass from Arthur. Our second half was definitely our stronger one and we were unlucky on numerous occasions not to score; Jamie was in fine form in goal and we struggled to get the ball in to the back of his

net. James M and James S worked quietly on the pitch and it was great to see them make so many tackles. Arthur was steady as always, and we relied on him a lot to do the hard work, and he set up a lovely pass for Caspian to score from. We lost Edward B late in the half with a head knock, and reluctantly he went off however Honor steadied the ship at the back and we kept a clean sheet. A well-deserved goal from Oliver saw us finish the game 5-0 winners.
