U11 Rugby beat Merchiston

A great start to the season, boys!

With hot sunshine, we played our first match away at Merchiston. We played some good rugby, particularly in the first half, with some passages of play seeing a number of well-constructed rucks and continual phases of play. We looked to pass the ball away from the base of the ruck and managed to spread the defence quite well. Our strength in the ruck was good to see. I was also impressed with our accurate passing and our discipline to pass out wide, rather than simply smash through the middle. We resorted to this a little in the second half, which was a shame as we were playing some well-structured and good standard of rugby. In defence, we tackled well on the whole, despite a couple of simple 1v1 missed tackles leading to two easy tries. Our overall shape and organisation was generally good, although stepping up as a team and putting the pressure on will be something to work on. Throughout the game, it was great to see smiles and enjoyment of the sport. Our leaders talked and encouraged all game, which was super to see. A very encouraging and promising start to the season boys, well played
