U13B Hockey beat Belhaven

A super team performance, girls!

We played some super hockey today scoring lots of terrific goals from tap ins to smashes from the top of the circle. The pace at which we moved the ball was excellent and the work rate from the girls was outstanding. Miranda opened the scoring with a terrific shot from the top of the circle which flew up high into the net and was involved in most of the goals and chances when she was on the pitch. Isla C on the right wing must have scored half a dozen through sheer persistence and desire to score. Bea was lively up front, running across the pitch into the wide areas to pick up possession and looked to drop it back to her team mates in space when there was no option to get into the circle. Valentina played in a few positions today and showed some nice 3D skills with some delicate passes and again was someone who was not selfish, wanting to make that pass to a team mate. Nancy grew into the game and after some intricate dribbling skill, played some lovely diagonals up to the strikers, particularly in the final 3rd of the match. Lexi played both on the left and through the centre, demonstrating a great deal of skill; she kept looking for the ball but was quick to pass and bring others into play. Amalia started a little bit half-heartedly but got into good positions in front of goal. Once she scored with a rocket of a sweep, her confidence was up and she really came on. Nadia was as ever present at the back when danger approached and continued to do what she does best - no nonsense clearing of the ball. Of course, that meant that perhaps our two goalkeepers who took it turnabout in goal, didn't see much action but they can both be proud of their clean sheets!

Player of the match today was Miranda for her skill on the ball and how she kept the shape of the team by bossing that midfield - a commanding presence. She also played at the back and was assertive there, driving the ball out of defence, but once releasing the ball, got back into her defensive position quickly.

Well played, girls; a high standard of hockey at times today and a thoroughly impressive victory against a Belhaven side who must be credited for not giving up.
