U11A Hockey beat Belhaven

A good win in the rain!

The U11A squad of Scalett, Rosanna, Emily M, Freya, Helena, Clara and Jemima headed to Belhaven to Halhill Astro today for the third game of the season. The rain started and it didn’t stop from start the finish however the girls got on with the task at hand and although the girls had not played as a team before we started with Scarlett as GK, Helena and Rosanna in defence, Emily the birthday girl and Freya in midfield and Clara and Jemima in attack.

Belhaven started off strong and challenged our defence with Scarlett making a number of fantastic saves keeping the score line level. Our girls in midfield and attack were a force and would not let Belhaven get away without a solid challenge this resulted in Emily running into the shooting circle and scoring our first goal. Belhaven came back at us and equalised however Helena single handily put up a challenge every time the Belhaven attack moved into out shooting circle. The girls also attempted their first defending short corner. They performed this well however Belhaven scored their second goal and the girls now have a better understanding of this set play.

The girls then needed a replacement and we called upon Florence to step up and help out in defence. Jemima and Clara never gave up attacking from every angle and making may long runs in attack.

In wet, heavy sports clothes the girls battled on through the horizontal rain and were awarded our first attacking short corner. This was executed well with Emily passing the ball to Freya at the top of the circle and then taking it in for Jemima to score the next goal, Jemima was delighted and we forgot there was rain falling by this point. The final goal came from Freya that went on the attack with Emily in Midfield and finished off with a goal. Fantastic effort by all the girls in difficult conditions. The final score was 4-3 win.
