U10 Rugby at Clifton Hall Festival

A super afternoon of rugby!

U10 Rugby at Clifton Hall

The boys travelled past the airport to Clifton Hall for an Under-10s rugby tournament on Wednesday. With Edinburgh Academy, George Watson’s and Compass School also attending, the boys had four matches to look forward to.

The first match saw Cargilfield pitted against The Compass School, who proved to be our toughest opponents on the day. The boys managed to battled their way through some excellent tackling to score first but Compass soon came back and exploited some unconfident tackling to score the next two tries. Cargilfield improved as the match went on but had left too much to do as the match ended in a 3-6 loss.

The next match was a closer encounter against the hosts. Our boys took some of the lessons they had learned in the previous match to improve their performance and earn well-fought victory by a single try, 6-5.

The third match was against George Watson’s College and for the first five minutes the boys struggled to deal with the pace and quick offloads of the opposition but they stuck in there and when GWC began to flag a little in the last minutes, they were able to press their advantage and end as 7-5 winners.

In the final match, tired but determined, the boys took on Edinburgh Academy for another tightly contested match. Both teams tackled well and attacked resolutely too, leaving the game poised 4-4 in the final minute. Cargilfield managed to seize possession and ran in one more try to finished off the match 5-4 winners.

Well done to all the boys for the fortitude they showed, their determination to improve and their sporting attitudes. Also, a big thank you to Clifton Hall for hosting a very successful event.
