U11/U10 Hockey v St. Mary’s
Some brilliant head to head hockey was had over at Tweedbank against St. Mary’s for our U11/10s team. Our squad had a strong set of players (Ceci L our captain, Freya M, Zinnia W, Alice B, Helena S, Isla S-A and Florence N) who were determined from the first whistle. St. Mary’s found our weak point and used the wing to dribble around us twice for some lovely but unlucky goals. Almost as quickly as it happened, Cece displayed her almost frighteningly powerful striking abilities by rocketing two shots into the goal (and a bonus disallowed one too!) and brought the game back level.
Alice and Zinnia became a dream tag team and used all the flair they could muster up to score right through half of the opposing team who had all congregated in the D to try and stop the goal. Flo wanted in on the action too and never gave up to score a lovely goal herself right into the bottom right corner. After a brief pause, we decided to continue on with some post-whistle injury time in which St. Mary’s attempted a comeback. Thankfully for the team, Freya and Helena were having none of this and created a human wall in defence. Isla, using her superpower of ball-snatching, once again brilliantly tackled a player, ran up the wing and passed to Ceci who shot so hard into the goal that the opposition jumped in the air.
Of course we also jumped in the air as we finished the game on a 5-3 win and congratulated each other on the major improvement which we’ve witnessed happen since only the start of the week. We showed our off-pitch pizazz by belting out 80s hits on the school bus to round out a lovely day of hockey. Shoutout to Freya our Player of the Match for being all over the pitch and constantly giving it her all throughout the whole game!
