U13 Hockey beat Loretto

Well played, girls!

With five players missing from the A team due to representing Cargilfield in The Saltires squad, some of the B team players were called up to the A team. Loretto were missing four of their A team but had brought a large squad. It was a good, solid Cargilfield performance from defence to attack as the girls rotated positions throughout the game.

The start was rather frantic as we struggled to string passes together and the ball ran out of play too often. However, we switched to a back three with Lexie, Tessa and Emilia being the best defenders in this formation and this allowed us a sweeper to pass the ball around the back more comfortably.

After a goalless opening 10 minutes, Miranda in midfield found an opening and calmly pushed the ball into the corner to open her and the team’s account. In the second half, she followed with a similar goal before getting her hat trick by scoring with a fierce shot giving the Loretto keeper no chance. Loretto struck back with a goal of their own but Lyla who was given the chance to play in goal for the A team, had done very well, making a number of good saves. Isla, Dulcie and Savannah all worked hard in what were mostly attacking roles and Savannah sealed the win with another driving run from the left.

However, sharing the player of the match award with Miranda was Jess who had a spell on both wings and always looked to pass the ball to a player in space. It was in the second half, when playing on the left, that Jess set up two of the goals with some accurate deliveries.

At times we played some superb, fast-paced hockey but we felt we could probably have scored more had we passed the ball a bit earlier and with more accuracy. Well done, girls!
