In modern education, online, or in the classroom, emphasis is placed on educating children in a way that they are able to monitor themselves and control their learning. The aim is to develop their own knowledge through their active participation in the learning process and by assessing the work they produce by setting future goals. Self-assessment is a strong way of assessing and involves children’s own work and results. Self-assessment is a guided and taught process that aims to support and improve the quality of learning. With self- assessment, it is better to see how pupils approach the learning process and in turns provides useful information for teachers and pupils to reflect on. Besides, it is important for pupils to develop the ability to use knowledge when it is needed and not only to acquire it. Self-assessment helps pupils to develops higher-order evaluative skills, pupils have to reflect honestly, so it also builds integrity and ultimately self-assessment in itself provides another learning opportunity.
