U11C Hockey beat Belhaven U11B

Well played, team!

U11C Hockey v Belhaven

Won 6 - 4

The U11C’s were out early for their warm up. Captained by Ethan, who was running them through their paces. The team had practiced well during the week, looked sharp already and looking forward to battling Belhaven.

From the off we were energised, looking to attack at every moment. Belhaven were disadvantaged as they did not have a goal keeper but there was no sympathy we wanted the victory. We pressurised all over the pitch breaking into the D and shooting. Belhaven defended valiantly hitting the ball off the line several times before we managed to get our first goal. For all our pressure Belhaven had a good structure and were comfortable defending. We did not quite have our shape at this point and relied on individual skills rather than a team mentality.

On occasions Belhaven broke quickly getting in behind our defense. We scrambled well with Michael marshalling the D and making last ditched tackles. We started to find our shape and width with Max and Findlay using the wings. Ethan and Miguel were now constantly on the front foot dribbling and passing with Johnny and Stuart trying to score lots of goals. Salman rotated around the pitch with Freddie and Seb our rock in the goals. Before I knew it, we had scored another 2 goals and were 3-0 ahead. Belhaven would not give up and again broke quickly this time scoring to give themselves hope. The first half finished with more pressure leading to our final goal going in at the break 4-1 up.

Seb “the rock” Rose kindly went into goals for Belhaven this half, which I think gave them confidence as they started strongly. We were suddenly under a lot of pressure and defending. Unfortunately, we lost our shape and were defending in ones and twos. Within a flash Belhaven were back in the game at 4-3. We had to respond and respond we did, Ethan and Miguel began to link play from the back threading passes out wide to Max, Salman and Johnny, who were whipping crosses in with Stuart and Finlay driving into the box to score. Seb (now the Belhaven keeper) was clearing everything and Belhaven would start their counter attack. It was end to end stuff. We were now working very hard and defending as a pack running Belhaven down and clearly off the line. Miguel was outstanding. Ethan also worked hard and between Miguel and him started some great attacks. We eventually broke them down leading 5-3. Rotating our squad to bring on fresh legs was invaluable; Freddie and Salman would freshen up the midfield stopping Belhaven higher up the pitch allowing us to counter quickly leading to our 6th and final goal. Belhaven deservedly scored at the end to make it 6-4 to us concluding a highly entertaining match.
