U11A Hockey beat Strathallan

A terrific end to a terrific season!

The Form 6 boys travelled up to Strathallan for their final game of the season. It was a gloriously sunny afternoon with a cool breeze but when the sun went behind the clouds, it got rather chilly and the boys were undecided as to whether they keep their base layers on or not.

The first of four 10 minute quarters was very competitive with neither side managing to break the deadlock. We had most of the chances thanks to some great work down the right from Arthur who sent some tremendous crosses in which Edward just couldn’t get on the end of in his unfamiliar position of centre forward. Jamie only had the one save to make.

In the second quarter, Leo opened the scoring with a good reverse shot past the keeper but that was it as our midfield in Toby and James unable to break down their defence. In the third quarter we had our strongest team on with Toby and Caspian linking up well and Theo got in amongst the goals with some clinical finishing. Strath were awarded a running penalty for a foot inside our D (we opted for those over penalty corners) but Jamie put the pressure on the Strath player and he just couldn’t get the shot on target.

The final quarter was much like the first, a very even 0-0 with Blake, who played this period on the right wing, almost getting the ball over the line in the final seconds but their defence stood firm.

It wasn’t our most outstanding performance but we were solid at the back with Max and Honour making some super tackles and were deserving in being awarded players of the match.

A fitting end to a very successful season and a lovely match tea of pie, chips and beans too! What more could we ask for!

Well played, boys. Once again, congratulations on your season and good luck to those moving up or on next year.
