U9 Rugby have fun at Merchiston

Lots of tries and lots of learning!

Our second fixture of the season was against our neighbours at Merchiston Castle, after some kilt related issues our boys warmed up with real accuracy and were split into two teams for two touch fixtures against Merchiston.

The first of our teams to play Merchiston started brightly with some fabulous continuity and handling on display creating an excellent early score. Thereafter, defence was on top and trench warfare ensued with little headway for the majority of the game, until Theo turned provider for Jonah to scurry through the opposition defence for the deciding try.

Our second team after pinpointing some things to work on from our first game came out the blocks fast with impressive handling, footwork and a better appreciation of space. This allowed for some free flowing rugby with Harry, Wilfred and Dexter all running some fabulous angles in attack. This resulted in four try victory, with Dexter impressing bagging a hattrick of tries.

Most pleasing was the strength in depth of the squad, this was highlighted in the training match we played against each other at the end. The boys are continuing to develop and enjoy their rugby which is most pleasing to see!
