U11A Girls beat St George’s

Some excellent hockey on show

U11A Hockey vs St George’s

We played two matches today. One on a smaller pitch with small goals and the other on a full half pitch. In the first game on the smaller pitch, we began tentatively with soft passes and a lack of determination – apart from Beatrice who doesn’t drop below a full smash when she makes contact with the ball. However, once we had warmed up, we began playing some nice hockey, the kind of hockey I had seen in training, with the centre players feeding the right wing. St George’s were good at getting in behind our defence and we conceded after a lack of marking. Isla G had already made some great saves but on this occasion, she was left exposed and St George’s managed to squeeze the ball passed her. We eventually began passing the ball harder and this meant we could move it more quickly to get up to the other end. Valentina linked up well with Isla C on the right and Gabriella was on hand to slot in the equalizer. Valentina then scored the second as we completed a great come back. Player of the match in the first game was Beatrice.

In the second match on the bigger pitch, the scoring went the same way: conceded first followed by two goals to win. In fairness, we had a goalkeeper and had it not been for Isla’s heroics, St George’s would have scored more. We did lack a little composure up front and missed some easy chances but Emilia DH worked hard on her own up front and scored the two goals to win the second match 2-1. Player of the match in the second game was Valentina.

Well done, girls!
