3rdXI Hockey beat GWC

A terrific performance, boys!

On a blustery afternoon at Cargilfield our 3rd XI took on our cross-town rivals George Watson’s. With a number of absences due to illness our team featured two Form 6 players in Mack and Theo who were keen to impress, alongside the gnarled experience of Otis, Zain and Thomas.

From the outset the boys played with a lovely tempo and were passing the ball crisply around the back. Youngster, Theo was flanked by two wise heads in Zayn and Thomas, when the latter ran into the D he drew a foul and showed great composure to slot the running penalty. Another goal came moments later and the boys looked in total control as the half drew to a close.

To Watson’s credit they came out firing after the break and thanks to Mack in goal the score remained 2-0 to Cargilfield. The pressure was mounting and two quick fire goals from Watson’s in the closing moments made it appear that a draw was inevitable. That was until, Otis found Thomas who quickly switched the ball left to Zayn who slotted the winner in the final moments.

Although the win was welcome, most pleasing was the way in which boys from a variety of year groups played so constructively together.

Well done, gents!
