A fabulous day at Belhaven

On Thursday, a group of Form 5 children went to Belhaven for the first Climate Conference of Prep Schools. The event was inspired by both COP26 and David Attenborough’s Earthshot Prize and it aimed to initiate discussions about issues presented by climate change and possible solutions.

There were three parts to the day: firstly, we had a talk from Surfers against Sewage where we were encouraged to “act local and think global” by doing small things in our community that contribute to a wider effort to help our planet. Secondly, there was a collaborative art project that visually represented the impact of climate change on one side, and the positive results of efforts to tackle these issues.

Finally, each school was asked to bring an initiative to the day that focused on a key issue and present it to a panel of judges from the Sustainability Sector. Cargilfield's idea to incentivise pupils to reduce the carbon emissions of their journey to school was lucky enough to win and we would like to thank Belhaven for a wonderful day!
