U11A Rugby beat Belhaven

A nail biting finish!

In heavy rain, the U11A team enjoyed a fiercely contested and highly skilled game of rugby today. There were some exciting passages of play with both teams throwing everything into the match and playing some excellent rugby.

Belhaven started stronger and we seemed a little taken aback by the ferocity of their tackling and counter-rucking, having not come across that in any previous games. We turned the ball over in our first attack of the game, and Belhaven kept possession well to score a well-worked try. We began building our way back into the match and there were some evenly contested passages of play. At half-time, the score was 3-2 in Belhaven’s favour.

During the second half, we tackled with more intent and tried to stop the ball being turned over quite in the rucks. We also added more aggression to our running lines and challenges their defensive set a lot more. This put us on the front foot more, and we were able to score 2 unanswered tries.

Caspian and Wilf were instrumental in the middle of the pitch, controlling distribution and putting in strong, dominant tackles. They also led the way with our attack, putting dynamic and powerful forward runs in. Jamie and Hamish were busy throughout, and it was great to see Arthur back with some trademark, massive hits! Miguel and Leonardo did well to keep up in a physical game. Our wingers, Oliver and Theo controlled the wings expertly, not allowing any tries in down their channels. They also attacked willingly with one glorious break from Theo that almost saw him score from one end to the next.

Altogether, I was really proud of the way the boys stuck with a strong Belhaven side and grew with belief and aggression as the game went on. We showed good fitness and desire. Well played boys.
