U9 Hockey v Fettes

Some excellent teamwork on show!

U9 Hockey v Fettes

Lost 2-0

Won 2-0

On a freezing January day our U9 “Reds” were playing indoors against our North Edinburgh neighbours Fettes Prep. In our first game the Cargilfield men had not got off the bus and had seemed to forget the advice and tactics of the previous week. They defended valiantly, however succumbed to the Fettes pressure going down 2-0.

Our second game came swiftly and the Cargilfield boys had stepped it up a number of gears and began to play the hockey we were used to seeing. Archie and Daniel moved the ball brilliantly, which freed up the Tebbutt boys to roam and dribble the ball into space, this allowed Tommy to find the net with two clinical finishers. Within this performance there was an outstanding defensive display from George, Hector and Magnus who were tenacious in their desire to get the ball back.

A top second half display – well done boys!

U9 Blue Team Hockey v Fettes

Lost 0-3 and Won 3-0

With the weather playing havoc with the best-laid plans this week, it came as welcome surprise when Fettes invited our Under-9 boys to pay a visit to their sports hall for a couple of 6-a-side matches.

In the first match, the boys were taken unawares in the opening seconds of the match as a goal was conceded almost immediately. They looked a little shell-shocked after that and struggled to implement their lessons on positioning and holding the stick strongly; nevertheless, they continued to battle on as best as they could, creating some chances of their own to score but sadly not able to convert any into goals.

They faired much better in the second match and looked more secure on the ball, producing some marvellous passes at times. Their luck in front of goal appeared to be following the trend of the first match but eventually the deadlock was broken with a fine goal from Teddy, created from a series of passes. Miguel played particularly well and it was good to see him rewarded for his efforts with a goal of his own. Well done to all the boys for their endeavour and determination, and our appreciation to Fettes for hosting us at late notice.
