P2 Outdoor Adventures

Lots of fun down on the beach

P2 continued their adventures outdoors by visiting Cramond Beach. Our task was to compare the woodland habitat we explored last week in the grounds of Lauriston Castle and the coastal habitat down at Cramond. It was a cold but beautiful morning down at the beach, and again we worked in teams to take photos of as many interesting habitats as we could find in this contrasting setting. We found tufts of spiky beach grass, driftwood, rockpools, shingle and clumps of seaweed. We combed the beach and spotted various empty shells washed up onto the sand. These included spiral ones, long narrow ones and even one that looked like the horn of a unicorn! We wondered what animals had lived inside them to keep safe and warm. We even found a limpet shell with barnacles attached to it and marveled at the thought of an animal making its habitat on the habitat of another! There were lots of squeals of excitement as we threw pebbles and paddled in the sea. We treaded the newly constructed boards of the walkway from the beach back to the promenade and wondered at the wildlife inhabiting the dunes below us. Finally, we headed back to school to put on some dry, warm clothes after another of our exciting P2 Cargilfield adventures!
