We were delighted when Loretto contacted us last week to see if we would like another match against them as we both had no match scheduled. With the game at Newfield ending so close, it was sure to be another good match. This time we had lost Nico and Charlie to the 1st XI but they were replaced by the equally effective Todd and Rory.
We were put into bat and our opening pair of Freddie and Edo fell quickly. However, Todd and Otis came in to steady the ship scoring a 44 partnership before Todd was retired on 25. Otis was bowled just after and Tom and Rory scored a quick 42 from 22 balls before Rory was retired on 29 and Tom was run out after being rather casual at running between the wickets. The player at Long On (who took 3 run outs today) threw to the other end and with Tom’s back turned and not sliding in his bat, he was gone. We made a strong total of 139 with one ball left in the 20 overs.
After tea, Loretto started well through the talented Zaara who scored 43 before being caught behind from Ramsay’s delivery by Lachie who is an ever-improving wicket keeper. Two wickets from Alex P gave us the control of the match and despite the best efforts of another batsman who scored a good 23 not out, we won by 33 runs. Steven bowled all 4 of his overs and came very close on a few occasions to getting his first wicket of the season but was unlucky.
It was another lovely game of cricket in the sunshine and we end the first half of the season with 5 wins and one loss. Today, man of the match was Lachie for his wicket keeping but generally we were much more dynamic and effective in the field as a whole. Well done, boys.
