1st and 2nd Girls beat Belhaven

1st and 2nd Girls beat Belhaven

First matches on the new astro!

1st Hockey v Belhaven – Won 12-0

What a treat it was to at long last, play a match on our home Astro!  The girls were really excited to be the first ones on it for a Wednesday fixture, and it was lovely to share it with our friends from Belhaven.

We started the match at a great pace and a lovely drive up the pitch followed by a spot on cross from Sophie, led to Saphira opening the scoring.  An early ball in to the D not long after from Izzy saw Saphira find the net again and it was clear at this point that it was going to be an attacking game.  A further goal from Saphira followed and Sophie brought the score up to 4 with a strike from a short corner.  Belhaven fought back a bit and Amelia, Ellie and Emma all worked hard getting the ball up the pitch.  Sophie bagged goal number 5 after our short corner broke down and we won another short corner quickly after this after a lovely break through from Ellie.  Two more goals from Saphira followed and we finished the first half 7-0 up.  Belhaven started the second half off strongly and broke in to our circle a couple of times, forcing a couple of good saves from Amy.  The play quickly swung back up the other end and a well-deserved goal from Flora followed.  Goal 10 was a result of a bit of a scramble in front of their keeper, and Izzy popped the ball in to the back of the net.  We couldn’t stop Saphira from scoring today and she scored goal number 11 with another nifty turn in front of the goal keeper.  Izzy scored the final goal, after receiving a lovely ball through from Amelia.

Although it was definitely a day for the strikers, it was obviously a big team effort and well done all for such a fantastic opening match on the Astro!

2nd Hockey v Belhaven – Won 5-2

The 2nds had a hard act to follow after the high scoring game of the 1sts, but they did not let us down and had a fantastic game of hockey today.  Laura scored quickly after only 3 minutes from a very tight angle, after a lovely ball through from midfield.  Laura then won a short corner and we were unlucky not to score from this.  Flora, Rosanna and Catherine played particularly well in defence, and cleared ball after ball away in to midfield.  We conceded a short corner close to half time and Belhaven pounced on this opportunity and scored from this set piece.  We lost another short corner soon after this but a strong clear from Flora saved the day.

With the score at 1-1 at half time there was all to play for; Laura stayed high and scored again early in the half to push the score to 2-1.  Alannah worked her socks off and a great ball through from her found Hannah who neatly performed a drag right and shot hard which resulted in a great goal.  Belhaven fought back and scored soon after, albeit against the run of play but Clemmie soon pushed us comfortably ahead with a goal from the top of the D.  The play swung from end to end at this point and we conceded 2 more short corners.  From the latter of the short corners, Laura ran out strongly and got the ball away which caught Belhaven on the back foot and Fran neatly scored at the other end to bring the score to 5-2.

What an exciting match this week for the 2nds and well done to both teams.
