U9 Girls v Loretto and Belhaven

U9 Girls v Loretto and Belhaven

First rounders match of the term!

Under Nines Triangular Tournament against Belhaven and Loretto

What fabulous weather for rounders! The Under nines settled down on the Headmaster’s lawn to watch our visitors play the first match. It turned out to be a close affair with Belhaven batting better and securing 10 rounders to Loretto’s 7 ½. Cargilfield then went in to bat against Belhaven, having lost the toss. Initially we were rather timid not making regular contact with the ball but then Athena came into the batting square and she scored a great rounder. Lucy and Tunrayo followed her good example in the second round and then Savannah, Lucy and Maddie also scored as our ten minute innings came to a close. Our half rounders added to our full rounders giving us a score of 11 ½.We had watched the previous game carefully and had worked out who the best hitters were and I am delighted to say that we got five of them out. Lucy and Izzy worked very well getting out players at first post. Amalia was not as sharp on second but still managed to get people out and Esme and Natasha took two great catches. Maddie and Athena worked well out deep and Lucy chased down some balls also. All in all it was a good team effort and a good win.

Cargilfield 11½ Belhaven 6½.

We won the toss against Loretto and again started to get players out at first post. Savannah rushed across to get a player out at second and Tunrayo did likewise. Our fielding was tight and we put pressure on the runners. I was delighted that we managed to get the whole team out before their ten minutes innings was complete. This was quite an achievement in our first competitive fixture of the season. In fact the team thought they had won! Careful as we needed to bat and beat their batting score! It turned out to be a close game as we struggled to hit the balls bowled by Jessica the Loretto captain. She bowled very well and then worked fast and accurately with the back stop to hold us at second. Thankfully we started to score after a shaky start and Esme, Lucy and Izzy scored. With half rounders we managed a total of six rounders, a narrow victory.

Cargilfield 6 Loretto 4 ½.

Well done on your first win girls! Lessons to be learned include keeping your eye on the ball to help your chance of hitting it! We will be practising this!
