U9 Girls beat Loretto

U9 Girls beat Loretto

Some super rounders and no rain!

On a day when most matches were cancelled we made our way to Musselburgh with much trepidation. We travelled through several kinds of weather but when we got there the heavens opened. We waited in the minibus for the rain to ease off and eventually played on the Junior hockey astro as the wet grass was deemed too slippy. Athena won the toss and we fielded first. Manon and Jessica were hitting and scoring well but we still managed to hold them to 2 ½ rounders for their first innings. We decided not to allow runners to be stumped at first to try to prevent slips, so this meant that the partnership between backstop Izzy, first post Lucy and bowler Esme did not have a chance to work. We went into bat and answered with a fine 7 ½ rounders. Izzy, Lucy and Bonnie all scored full rounders which was great. Loretto went back into bat for their second innings but only managed a further 4 ½ giving them a total of 6 ½. Despite a little snoozing at post we managed to get four girls out. We had already won before we went into bat again. Lucy was on fire bringing her total to three rounders, hitting very well indeed. Savannah and Tunrayo scored and Bella ran boldly around some misfielding to achieve her rounder. Our final total was 14 rounders.

Cargilfield 14 Loretto 6½.
