U11C Girls lose to Fettes

U11C Girls lose to Fettes

We come second best this week

We welcomed Fettes to Cargilfield this afternoon and they arrived with a Goalie so Rowan very kindly volunteered to put the GK kit on for the first time and have a go.  As captain, her first duty was to win the toss which she did and chose to start with the ball.  Right from the start, Fettes were a bit hungrier for the ball and flooded forward.  Cargilfield defended well to keep Fettes out from the D but eventually their persistence paid off and Rowan was unable to keep the ball out.  The second came after a fortuitous bounce off a foot but we were letting a lot go to keep the game flowing.  In the second, Isobel, who had kept her position really well in the first half had a few more chances but was unable to convert them.  Rowan played outfield in the second half and was strong on the ball. Natasha was lively in midfield and chased the ball for the whole time she was on the pitch.  Fettes managed to get another goal despite, Bea coming on in goal to help before she played for the B team.  Jacqueline, Julia and Amenah were great at blocking the ball and making strong passes. Tessa was terrific in midfield as she turned strong and tried to take the ball forward. Malysa, Hattie and Emilia worked well and showed that their hockey skills are developing each week. On the day, Fettes were just a bit too strong and had skillful players in key positions which meant that they were a difficult team to break down.  However, we kept going and showed some excellent sportsmanship at the end. Players of the match were Rowan for stepping up to play in Goal for the first time ever;  Jacqueline with her excellent tackling and playing out from the back and Isobel for working really hard in attack.
