1stXV 63 Craigclowan 14
Our final game before heading to Yorkshire for the 16th year in a row to play Giggleswick, Aysgarth and Sedbergh saw the 1stXV head up to Perth to play Craigclowan. If truth be told, this was a difficult fixture with only a few days before tour and boys freshly back from a two week half term without having played much rugby! That said, from the first whistle, we kept the ball for three or four minutes, going through phase after phase, recycling quickly time and again before Edward went over for the first try before Craigclowan had got their hands on the ball.
We were perhaps not at our fluent best this afternoon, even though we scored ten tries, and we certainly butchered four very easy run ins which we cannot afford to do against stronger opposition which we will come up against over the next two weeks, as we reach the real business end of the season. Being clinical, accurate and staying focused is so important and although we played some scintillating rugby at times, we were sloppy on occasions and although the boggy pitch did not help, we were not as fluent as we have been.
Hugo and Sebastian were immense up front and it was great to see them running such good lines and being very aggressive in the contact area, whilst Quin and Jack ran the show in the backs with some mesmeric running despite the conditions. But it was a useful run out, blowing the half term cobwebs away, and setting us up nicely for the challenges to come.
There is much to anticipate over the coming days, and seeing how we react when under pressure is something I have been looking forward to since the start of the season.
Good luck down south, and I know you will be marvellous ambassadors for the school, as always.
