2nd Rounders v Belhaven

2nd Rounders v Belhaven

So good to be back playing!

It was a lovely warm day for our first match and there was a real sense of excitement in the bus as we headed off to Belhaven. We were a bit rusty with our match protocols and had forgotten skorts, bats and balls but that didn’t seem to matter today.

The Belhaven girls were very welcoming and we all enjoyed being able to play again and being out in the fresh air on a sunny day. We won the toss and chose to field first. Belhaven were understandably a bit tentative and it took a few balls for them to get into their stride scoring on ball 10. Our fielding needed some work, particularly our tendency to follow the batter with the ball rather than throwing ahead to the next post.  Matilda was really steady at bowler and threw hardly any no balls.  Our close in fielding was also good but we need to work more on our accuracy and long range throws form the outfield. Luckily there weren’t too many outfield balls today!

When it was our turn to bat we exploited a  few weaknesses in the fielding to clock up a healthy number of rounders and half rounders ending the innings 13 rounders ahead.

Belhaven played a much more impressive game in the second innings. Their fielding was much tighter around 2ndbase and it was much harder for us to score. Valentina led the team very well and was also our top scorer with 4 rounders.

Final score Cargilfield 24, Belhaven 7 1/2
