Form 5 A Cricket v Merchiston

Form 5 A Cricket v Merchiston

Lots of fun playing matches again!

What a lovely afternoon for some Form 5 children to head off to Merchiston for some softball pairs cricket.
We batted first and Monty and Dexter got us going with some fine batting displays and sensible running.  Although Archie played some nice shots during his innings, shot of the day went to Jonah with a lovely cover drive to the boundary for 4 runs.  We did gift Merchiston some wickets with some excitable running between the stumps but closed with a solid 42 runs.

Our bowling was very strong with Wilfred opening and showing how dangerous he can be.  In their first game of cricket, Isla G, Beatrice and Emilia bowled particularly well, but Theo was deadly with his first over, taking 3 wickets and leaving Merchiston with an uphill challenge.  We had a few opportunities to take some catches with some going down due to the sun awkwardly being in the way; however, Harry took a superb one in his fingertips and then in the final over when Merchiston had clawed their way back into contention after some fine batting in the penultimate over, Harry was on hand again to take a wicket from Theo's delivery to ensure the victory was Cargilfield's.

It was an incredibly exciting match and everyone learned a great deal.  Whatever the result, it was just great to be back out and playing a fixture against another side and we thank Merchiston for hosting us and making it possible. [
