Form 5 Boys Cricket beat Loretto

A terrific performance, boys!

Cargilfield 142 for 3 wickets

Loretto 24 for 10 wickets

It was a pleasure to take the F5 boys on a sunny afternoon for their match against Loretto, and I was delighted with the enthusiastic and skilful way in which they played, showing real improvement in all aspects of the game, batting, bowling and fielding.

We played pairs, with each pair batting for three overs. Batting first, we only lost 3 wickets in our 18 overs which was a terrific performance. We punished anything off the stumps, we ran well between the wickets (the fact that no one got run out tells its own story!), and we were careful when the ball was straight. We scored 142 runs in total, with Monty and Kasim scoring 37 from their three overs but all the pairs batted very well and showed lots of promise for the future.  This was a terrific total and would be very difficult for Loretto to chase, and so it proved.

With the ball, we bowled straight! I tell all children that at this level, 98% of batsmen are out bowled, so if you bowl straight, more often than not, you will get wickets, and so we did, ten of them! Kasim took a great catch behind the stumps, but the highlight was Wilfred taking a triple wicket maiden from his over – a rare event indeed!

So a convincing win, but more important was the learnings from today. Cricket is a complicated game and I was delighted to see the boys so enthusiastic and always looking to improve their technique with the bat and the ball. Well done indeed, and it was a pleasure to take you!
