U11B and U11C Rugby beat Fettes

Two excellent team performances!

The Under 11s welcomed Fettes to Cargilfield for some 8-a-side matches on Wednesday.

The B-teams started their match looking a little rusty but soon both sides found their feet and began to offload the ball in the tackle and look for space. Senuka proved to be Cargilfield’s most incisive runner, using his pace and step to exploit the gaps. Jamie, Harry, Mack and George used their strength well to produce useful direct runs before passing the ball on. Oliver was outstanding in defence, making numerous try-saving tackles, whilst Maxi, Charles and Sasha positioning themselves very usefully in attack, which always provided the ball carriers a good passing option. The match ebbed and flowed as Fettes also produced some powerful runs and the teams alternated their turns to score. Cargilfield was fortunate to edge the match by one try, winning 6-5; the teams were very well matched and it could have gone either way.

In the Under-11C match, the boys were up to the challenge too and demonstrated great team play, with excellent offloads and determination to get back and tackle. Leo was outstanding in defence, making tackle after tackle after tackle. In attack, Theo used his pace and balance to zig-zag his way through his opponents and proved very hard to stop. The two Alexanders were very good in both attack and defence and their support in both departments was crucial. As the match went on, both teams grew in their understanding and will now have a little more knowledge to carry with them into their next encounter. Fettes also produced some great attacking rugby but it was Cargilfield who came out 7-5 winners in the end.

Well done to all the boys.
