2ndXV beat Belhaven

2ndXV beat Belhaven

A terrific effort, boys!

On a bright and blustery Autumnal day our 2nd XV looked to notch their first win of the season, after a narrow defeat to Merchiston last time out. The Cargilfield men started well with Rufus and Senuka leading the way with ferocious defence in the opening minutes. This led to a brilliant transition into attack and some instinctive play from Theo led to an opening score for Cargilfield. Belhaven, began to get a foothold in the game and a spell of sustained pressure and excellent multi-phase rugby led to a score for the visitors. The first half was largely played in the middle of the park, with both teams showing a real tenacity in defence. Eventually, the Belhaven line was breached by Matthew after some wonderful work at the breakdown by Wilfred and Oliver. Rufus and the Reis boys continued to threaten with Jamie being a welcome recipient to some wonderful offloading to score a brace of tries.

The second half was a much more even affair and Belhaven scored a wonderfully crafted try, which brought them back into the contest. Cargilfield continued to pressure the Belhaven line and eventually scored the try of the game with Tristan able to cut a fabulous line and brush off a number of tacklers to score an excellent try. The match ended with another try to Matthew after some slick midfield handling from Archie, Dexter and Rufus. A wonderful team effort and a match played in an excellent spirit.

POTM: Matthew and Tristan

Scorers: Jamie x2, Tristan, Dexter, Theo x2, Matthew x2

Score: 44-10
