U10 Touch match v Merchiston

Great to see boys enjoying their rugby!

The Under-10s hosted Merchiston for their third touch-rugby clash this season. With eight players on each side, free space on the pitch was at a premium and, with both sides enforcing a reasonably tight defensive line, tries were initially difficult to come by despite the unlimited touches allowed. Merchiston, however, managed to make some room with some fancy footwork, scoring the first two tries before Cargilfield responded with their own try. The score went on to alternate in favour of each team at various times but Cargilfield led by one try at half-time. The first half had ended with quite an open game but the second half proved to be a much tighter affair - whilst some agile footwork was again on display in attack, determined defence kept the scores down. Defensively, Ethan and Honour were outstanding; Ethan putting continual pressure on the opposition and Honour making numerous try-saved touches. Cargilfield’s highlight of the match was undoubtedly the try scored in the first half, where Salman made an excellent run to within three yards of the try line, drew the defenders in and then passed the ball out wide to where Finlay and Freddie were waiting, perfectly positioned; Freddie dotted down as cool as you like!

Merchiston won by a single try in the end but the Cargilfield boys can be proud of some excellent rugby, particularly their passing and awareness - which are developing very positively.
