U11 IAPS Hockey Qualifiers

2nd Place

Wednesday afternoon was spent at Fettes representing Cargilfield at the U11 IAPS Qualifiers. The girls had a very tough round robin pool coming up against St Marys, Loretto and St Peters. The squad of Scarlett, Athena, Olivia, Emily, Thalia, Livia, Beatrice & Zinnia started off slow. The first game they came up against St Peters with Scarlett saving a couple good shots on goal. The girls managed knock one into the back of the goal finishing 1-0 and gaining 3 points. Their second two games were a lot tougher with their old rivals from Sunday's 7’s tournament St Marys and Loretto both finishing their games with draws. 1-1 against Loretto and 0-0 against St Marys. This resulted in us coming 2nd in the pool going through to the semi-finals against Fettes who had won their pool.

The semi finals against Fettes started off strong, their most impressive match of the tournament with lots of passing, shots on goals and really good linking between the players. Livia scored a hattrick with Lotte coming on to finish the game 4-0 with a final shot on goal before full time. This sent the girls whooping and celebrating as they had made the final.

The final was against Loretto. Both teams started off with strong tackling making it difficult for the players to get to each other’s shooting circles. Loretto had some very strong and good tacklers who started to win balls when Cargilfield players held onto the ball for too long giving them possession and an attacking advantage on Cargilfield. Loretto managed to score one goal past Scarlett GK in about the 5th minute.

The girls came back with shot after shot after shot around the goal but it just would not cross the line. The final score finished 2-0 to Loretto and so we finishing second overall. The girls are improving week on week but there is still a lot to work on for the future!

We had some wonderful Cargilfield FP’s helpers who were there to look after us at the tournament Charlie, Lilly and Iris. Cargilfield parents were also a wonderful support from the side line and Athena’s brother also dropped by to cheer her on.

Well done!
