U11A Rugby beat Dollar

A wet and wild afternoon!

U11A Rugby v Dollar

7-1 win

The U11 boys enjoyed a combative and physical game against Dollar today. The conditions were wet and windy, which made the ball difficult to handle and the mud was cold. I was impressed with the way our boys got stuck into the match, however, all of them throwing themselves into tackles and rucks. We have been working on our swarm defence in training and it was good to see evidence of this during the match. Our defensive line advanced quickly and put the Dollar players under pressure. This tactic forced mistakes from the Dollar team and allowed us to win a number of turn-over ball from knock-ons and mis-passes. We also competed really well in the ruck, showing good aggression and dominance over the ball. In tricky conditions, our passing was tested today and we made a few mistakes with the ball in hand. Despite this, we linked up pretty well and there were some great passages of play where we managed to pass the ball along the line to our wingers.

Caspian led the team with some thunderous tackles, strong runs and a great physical battle with his opposite captain, who played very well for Dollar. Jamie ran hard and put in some text-book tackles. Toby showed terrific hands catching the ball on the wing a dotting down for a couple of tries. Oliver couldn’t quite find the space he needed in tricky conditions but contributed really well when he came on. Hamish and Theo were ferocious on their respective wings, tackling really well and running fast with the ball. Wilf had another very strong game, making dominant hits in the tackle and making some great runs. Leonardo ran with strong aggression in the match today and won a lot of ground for his team; knowing when to give that winning pass is what he is working on. James was a persistent defensive threat, moving up into the Dollar line and making quick early tackles. Edward grew in confidence as the game wore on, which was great to see, and he swarmed up early in defence to put in some aggressive leg tackles.

Overall, a good game of rugby, well played boys.
