U 9 Rugby A & B v Loretto

Cargilfield welcomed the Loretto Under 9 team to school yesterday and fielded both an A & B team in what proved to be an excellent afternoon of attacking rugby.

In the opening match the A team took on Loretto and ran out winners by 3 tries to 2 having been 2 tries to 1 down at half time. Daniel scored two fine tries but it was Miguel who dived over for what proved to be the decisive score. Throughout the game Cargilfield had defended their line well thanks to some great team work and a number of outstanding touch-tackles from Magnus, who also showed great pace and determination in attack. Archie dictated play from the centre of the pitch as always and there were good passing displays from Hector and Teddy.

In the second game the A team took on the B team, with the A team running out worthy winners by 6 tries to 4. It was Ensay’s turn to show what he could do with the ball as he demonstrated blistering pace on the way to scoring a fine hat trick of 3 tries. Archie added a 4th try with Magnus scoring the other two. Tries for the B team came from Nick (2), Tommy and Charlie. The difference between the two teams was the fact that the A team were always looking for support and an opportunity to spread the attack whilst the B team relied a little too heavily on individual breaks.

In the final game of the afternoon the B team proved to be too strong for Loretto, in what was also a very close game, as they ran out winners by 6 tries to 5. The try of the afternoon came from Tommy after Hugo had made a fabulous break and then off loaded the perfect pass to Tommy, who scored the second of his two tries. Before this Arran had scored two fine tries in the opening minutes of the game whilst Nick & Hugo also crossed the line. Throughout the game there was some fine support play from George & Ezra.
